Claus is a part-time HM2 Programmer while he works on NoteCaddy full time.  Enjoy the read.  There's still one more developer bio to run though so stay tuned.

Name?

  • A.         Claus

How long have you worked for Holdem Manager?

  • A.       I started working for HM about a year and a half ago.  They were working on HM2 and approached me after I released NoteCaddy.

What specific part of Holdem Manager do you work on?

  • A.       Once Holdem Manager launched I’ve been working on NoteCaddy full time.  During HM2 development my main responsibilities included all the note functionality and screens associated with notes, like the instant HH window.

Anything interesting about your past work experience?

  • A.       I've been doing poker programming since 2005 – before I ever even played online.  I've worked for poker forums and even a well known poker site.

Have you done any poker side projects in the past?

  • A.           I worked on my own tracker in 2007 since I felt PT2 had some major flaws.  Roy and Mike were faster with HEM though.  When I saw how people were instantly in love with it, I knew I had missed the boat and suspended development.  The roots of that project eventually became NoteCaddy so it wasn't a total waste.

What is your favorite variation of poker?

  • A.       I like shorthanded Omaha though I don't think I've ever won a single pot.

How often do you play every week?

  • A.       I don't have time to play for fun or profit anymore but I do play for test purposes around 3-4 times per week.  My sessions are only 1 or 2 orbits on average.

Can you share anything that might help a developer get hired for their dream job?  (Poker or not)

  • A.       Try to find a company with a good reputation.  If you're interviewing with a small unknown company, watch out for red flags in the interview.  If they say they are looking for someone "truly dedicated" that means they expect you to work long hours.  If they refer to benefits as "coming soon" that means they don't offer them.  If you're a good programmer, there's no reason to settle.  Just don't be afraid to ask questions.
